Mar 24, 2020

Description:

Bridgestone Americas will close its manufacturing facilities in North America and Latin America, phaseout production starting March 21. All plants are scheduled to resume normal operations by April 12. The company said it would continue to monitor the situation closely and adjust its response plans and activities if necessary. Bridgestone has 15 tire plants in North America and Latin America. Bridgestone said its products were in sufficient supply to meet customer needs and its distribution centers, factory warehouses and logistics teams would continue to fulfill their orders. The temporary closure of production facilities will help to bring supply in line with expected demand on the market.

In a statement, the company said: "As the company carefully monitors the status of the coronavirus, it will continue to take action in all aspects of its operations to ensure the health and safety of its employees while meeting the needs of its customers and the market." Goodyear took steps on March 17th to close its tire factory in Europe. The next day, it revealed that it would phase out production at its North and South American plants. Mr Goodyear said the global shutdown would last until April 3. Michelin followed suit in Europe, saying on March 19th it would temporarily close facilities in the countries most affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
